Today saw round 8 of 8 of the Allerton Park Weight Pull Championship, run by Keith and Myra of Kaytoo Alaskan Malamutes. Lucien went into this round leading the championship by 11 points to cousin Polar (Cinneli Ice Road Polar Bear WTD WPD WWPD WWPDX), with 12 dogs entered into the 81-100lbs class, Lucien needed to pull at least the first weight (400lbs) and Polar would need to win the class for them to draw the championship. Lucien wasn't on his best form though and we weren't sure how he would pull throughout the day, but with the first pull of 400lbs done and out of the way, he seemed to gain focus and get back into a routine.

By 2100lbs, there were only 3 dogs remaining. Lucien, Kiska and Dash. All three were pulling exceptionally well, especially Lucien, who's head was definitely in his pants today and i found it hard to gain his attention. Kiska didn't manage to pull the 2200lbs, and it was down to Dash and Lucien to fight it out for Most Weight Pulled. Both Dash and Lucien pulled 2400lbs, with Dash pulling just 8 seconds faster than Lucien. The boys then tried to pull the 2500lbs, but both ran out of time to complete their pulls, with Lucien pulling the weight further than his uncle and less than 3 feet from the finish line! So close, and it gives us something to aim for for next season. We know he can pull the 2500lbs if we can keep his attention.
