Icetrax Lupo14th September 2006 - 11th September 2008

Lupo was our first dog and came home to us on Saturday November 4th 2006, in time for fireworks night. Lupo amazed us from the start, he was completely unflappable, and unafraid of everything. Despite all the fireworks going off that night, Lupo was quite happy running round and didn’t bat an eyelid. He has never been afraid of anything and approaches any new situation head on. Lupo’s name means Wolf in Italian and it suits him to a T!
Lupo was such a comedian and there wasn't a day that went by without him making us laugh. He was a real chatter box and talked about everything he did. We didn’t need to see him to know what he was doing and even makes a noise when he lay down, we haven’t seen another dog do it before. This was to the great amusement of his obedience trainer, who made us all do sits and downs in class just to hear Lupo’s enthusiasm. With him and his best friend Ranger, (Achak Come Fly With Me) there was never a quiet moment in class!
When Lupo became old enough we started to train him on the scooter. Gently at first so he wouldn’t hurt himself and it ended up with Sammy doing a lot of the work. He would run 4 miles in training and compete in rallies for AMWA and ABSA.
As Lupo was such a confident and dominant dog, we decided that it would be best to have him neutered, and at about 11 months he went in to have the operation. Unfortunately it meant that we couldn't show him, but we are hoped to make up for this by getting him his WPD (Working Pack Dog) tittle later that year. Training began right away as he was still fresh from the working season.
As well as continuing with Lupo’s obedience training in the summer, he was also doing agility when he was old enough. His favourite obstacle was the tunnel and would charge towards it, he wsn't however, keen on the walk over and walked up it by clinging onto the sides of the frame. We were also hoping to start Lupo on his Weight Pull training as he did so well at his first competition in AMWA Banham Zoo.
Lupo also did some basic gun dog training as he loved this, he also went to Hydrotherapy on and also did some of Mina’s ring craft classes to help him keep socialising with other breeds of dog.
On the 11th September 2008, we made the heart breaking decision to let Lupo run free. He had been suffering from a neurological condition which suddenly got worse, and we felt it kinder to him to let him go to be with Freddy, Otto and Mia.
We miss him very much and still expect him to come out from his hiding places. He taught us so much and because of him, we now have the amazing dogs we do. We still talk about him often and have his portrait hanging on the wall. Long gone but never forgotten.
Run free handsome boy we’ll meet again one day. My Pedigree
